Back in the late 1800's a Boston captain named Samuel Truman Preston sailed into Greenport NY and fell in love. Greenport's historic charm and bustling seaport economy lured him into purchasing some waterfront property in the village and He established the now Famous S.T. Preston & Son Ship's Chandlery. Preston's, as the business became known, supplied the local shipyards with everything needed to maintain the many vessels that came into Greenport for service. Most notably, the luxury yachts owned by The Vanderbilt family and the J-boats that raced for, and won, the America's Cup.

In the late 50's when advertising executive Frank Fagan rolled into town, he fell in love too and bought Preston's from Samuel's son in law Ben Rogers. Realizing that the winters were long around here, He and his son in law George Rowsom decided to start a mail order business selling marine art, ship models, and brassware. They were relative pioneers in the mail order business at that time and the business grew to become the leader in the field, shipping nautical giftware and home decor worldwide.

Today, with the same family at the helm, Preston's still provides the finest in nautical giftware and coastal decor in true multi-channel fashion. Our headquarters is still located on the wharf in Greenport. We have two retail stores: one still devoted to providing boaters with the finest equipment gear and sportswear and the other focused on items found on our website.
